We always took our dachsies on holidays with us.
Here are some of the places where
we liked to stay on holidays in Tassie. We think they
are excellent and highly reccommend them if you are planning a holiday with your dog/s.
Woolly Butt Bungalow - Falmouth -
East Coast
A "Woolly Butt" is a type of tree, and is what this cute
little bungalow is named after. It is open plan with a queen bed
and kitchenette, and a separate bathroom. Woolly Butt Bunglaow
is surprisingly spacious but also has a nice, warm and cosy feel,
especially in winter when the wood heater's going.
There are wetlands just out the back,
where you can spend time watching and listening to the birdlife
and its just a short, easy stroll to an awesome beach where dogs are welcome to run off leash.
You can walk along the beach all
the way to the town of Scamander.
Apsley Holiday Unit - Bicheno -
East Coast
At first glance this unit appears
tiny as it is long and thin but inside it is well laid out and
incredibly clean. It reminded me a little of being in a railway
carriage.
The unit has a bedroom, living/dining/kitchen
and a bathroom. It also has a very large deck, looking out towards
the ocean, and the deck has gates which you can close if you don't
want your dachsies going walkabout.
There's a big yard with lots of trees
- great for dogs to explore. The yard is well fenced but you
need to keep an eye on smaller ones as they could get through
it if they wanted to.
It's about a 15 minute walk to the
nearest beach - and the beach seems to go on forever! There's soft,
white sand and while we were there (both times in February) we
had the whole beach to ourselves. A dachsie paradise!
Glenbrook Cottage - Penguin -
In the north of Tassie, between Devonport and Burnie
We stayed in the self contained cottage
which is a short walk from the main house. It's a two bedroom cottage
with separate lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The cottage
is quite original so it has a lovely, rustic feel and best of all,
it has a fully fenced yard which is nice and secure even for tiny
pups like mini dachsies.
This is a private and peaceful place
with nature walks, lots of wildlife such as paddymelons, which
are great to watch from the back verandah, and sheep, goats and
chooks (chickens) to complete the picture.
The town of Penguin is only a short
drive from the cottage and has a small beach with a nice grassy
spot for picnics and a fantastic view out to Bass Straight. There's
also a brilliant craft market on Sundays.
