Sadly, as with other animals, alpaca Rescue has
become a realiity and we are starting to hear about alpacas being
mistreated and abandoned.
While there are some cases which are clearly animal
cruelty, we know there are also many valid reasons why people find
themselves unable to care for their alpacas.
Some of these include
financial issues, insufficient pasture or feed, lack of knowledge
and handling skills as well as medical conditions or injuries which
can make it difficult for people to continue caring for their alpacas
properly.
Sometimes people are moving away
and don't have time to arrange suitable new homes for their alpacas
before they go.
We care about the on-going welfare of all alpacas,
not just those we breed here. If you have alpacas which you can
no longer care for, or if you know of alpacas who might need a
helping hand, please contact
us.
If the alpacas are in Tasmania, we are happy to
provide care and re-homing (if appropriate) for them if, for whatever
reason, they can no longer stay in their current situation.
If you are aware of alpacas in Tasmania who are
being neglected or abused, but don't wish to become involved, we
are happy to contact the relevent authorities so they can investigate
the problem.
For alpacas outside Tasmania, we can try to put
you in touch with alpaca people in your area who may be able to
assist.
